My Weakness and Could Be My Downfall

After a self-imposed break, I gave in and got one. It had been a while and it tasted better than my last

one. It's scent and color familiar. The liquid from the straw tasted like the sweet nectar of the gods as it splashed on to my waiting tongue. Haha. Just kidding. I really do like the Starbucks Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher.

Since I don't really do coffee-based drinks, I needed to find something a little more exciting than an iced black tea. Many months ago, my wife suggested I give this drink a try. Game changer! I started getting these 5 days a week if not more.

I didn't notice the change with my stomach immediately, but I caught on quickly. There was an increase in cramps. More gas. Way harder to go. I shrunk my size down to grande. I tried to tinker with the recipe. Adding more ice. Adding water, instead of having just the syrup. I tried drinking more water throughout the day and cutting them back to one or two per week.

So, I decided to give them up for a while. Mainly to give my stomach a rest, but also to avoid spending 5 dollars a day. It's a really is a tasty drink. The difference in the 1st and 2nd pictures was one sip. Part of that is the amount of ice that was placed in my cup. It wasn't light ice. But that could be its own post, "Why Don't Baristas Ever Follow Your Mobile Order? "

Sugary drinks have always been a problem for me. Before this drink, lemonade was the issue. Fruit juices before that. I’ve done a little research on what sugar does when it enters the digestive system. Most mention that the body will try to draw excess water into the intestines. This would cause watery stool. I feel my body does the opposite. Most of the time after having drinks with a lot of sugar everything slows down. There are times I wouldn’t be able to “go” for days. I’ve learned a good amount about how these drinks change my body and bathroom pattern. While I’ve been able to resist most things, I still drink way too much Coke. I am trying to cut that intake, but I really enjoy it with food.

Do you all have any issues with sugary drinks? Let me know in the comments. Also thanks for reading.
