New Probiotic

Taking probiotics has been going well, so I thought I would start looking for something with better quality ingredients. The current brand I have mentions that it has around 6 billion CFU. The refers to the number of bacteria you are getting.  The newer bottle has 40 billion CFU!

I picked up this one from Amazon. It is manufactured by Bio Schwartz. There are also enough for a month. It was prime day and the price was good. The packaging was very bright and interesting. I get drawn in easily by bright colors. :)   This one mentions that it was allergen & gluten free.  Has 100% natural ingredients and a very high potency.  The high amount of bacteria helps it survive stomach acid and make it down to your intestines. Which is what you want in a probiotic. After taking a look at the reviews, I thought why not. 


The bacteria strains listed are Lactobacillus Acidophilus (La-14), Bifidobacterium Lactis (Bl-04), Lactobacillus Plantarum(Lp-115), and Lactobacillus Paracasei (Lpc-37).  I haven't done much research into the best bacteria to take, so if you may know, feel free to share.



I don’t feel much different from the last one to this new one. But, It’s only been a few days.
Still trying to do the right thing and restore that natural flora to my gut.

If you are looking for a probiotic, I definitely recommend talking to your GI. They may have samples.  I remember when mine first brought it up, he gave me a ton of Align samples.  Look around online, and read Amazon reviews.  You will find positive and negative one, which just reminds me that certain things may work for some and not for others.  There are other brands on Amazon that have more bacteria and cost less like this NewRhythm Probiotic.

Its been over a week since I wrote an entry. Nothing has really change with me. After checking in with the doctor's office, my Prednisone was cut again. They now want me to take only two and a half pills per day. I guess that is good news. They did add a medicine called Dicyclomine. I think they said for the cramps that I still have. I'm also starting to feel less pain after a bowel movement. I am happy about that. I was told by the doctor's nurse that to see what course of action we are going to take next that I have to have a test done. Looking at the test requisition, it's called Prometheus. On the sheet it looks like I am supposed to have a TPMT Genetics, TMPT Enzyme, IBD Serology 7, and Celiac Serology test done. Yeah, I have no idea what these are. Diet and Crohn's Disease - Gluten Free

I hear stories online about gluten free diets and how they help crohn's disease sufferers. But I also hear stories about the food tasting like cardboard. That's why I want to try some meals for myself. For those who don't know, a gluten-free diet completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals: wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, and triticale, as well as the use of gluten as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent. Thanks Wikipedia for that definition. The problem with going Gluten free is finding food. Gluten is in virtually every processed food. This is usually a diet for Celiac disease sufferers. When people have Celiac disease they are intolerant to gluten. Eating food with gluten causes the villi in their intestine to flatten. When this happens, they do not absorb food or nutrients. Happy Tuesday Crohnies!

Just wanted to give you all a quick update.  So, since starting the probiotics I've noticed a little change. Everything is a little more solid if you know what a mean. Haha.  It definitely takes some getting used to.  I've also picked up a new probiotic. I will post about that soon.  The blog has also gone through a little design change.  I wanted to make it cleaner looking and get rid of the gray.  I've been trying to squeeze in a little time for that in the evenings.  You may see it change and evolve over the next days or weeks.   I've been working on a few new posts. I hope to have some up soon.  There will be some about working out since I'm trying to build endurance and strength.  The handstand pic above is me trying to stay positive and happy in the gym.
